Clássicos de design: a cadeira tulipa

Designed by Eero Saarinen in 1956, this simple, organic forms and expressive, he was able to transform into a classic.  He emerged as a prototype as a result of the progress of work of Saarinen furniture, plastic and laminated wood, together with Charles Eames in 1940.   He also proved to be one of two award-winning pieces in the competition for organic furnishings from the Museum of modern art (MOMA).

Saarinen designed to debug the forms of the furniture that he had designed. Or single Pedestal leg was the architect's proposal to cancel the four-legged classic.  In this way the architect managed to take advantage of the residual space underneath chairs.  The base is cast aluminum.  Although the original idea was that it was made entirely of plastic, turned out to be too weak to support the weight of the seat frame that was needed for the manufacture of aluminum. Its exterior is a reinforced glass fiber extrusion. The seat has an upholstered cushion and can also be found in various colors.
